THE COUPLE
Kevin and Emily reside in the Lower East Side of New York City. Emily is an interior designer specializing in Hospitality, and recently began working at Champalimaud Design. Kevin manages real estate acquisitions and development projects for The Georgetown Company.
They love traveling, Saturday brunches with friends, and relaxing nights at home (eating terrible food and watching scary movies).
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
College. Kevin was a Senior, Emily a Sophomore. At a Sigma Nu football tailgate, Kevin and Emily's interactions were playful, but promising... numbers were exchanged. By Spring of 2011 they were inseparable, and Kevin made the wise decision to make Emily his girlfriend before setting off to pursue his dreams in NYC. Two years of long distance flew by, six and a half years later they will be married!
THE PROPOSAL
It was NYE 2015; both Kevin and Emily's families, minus a few key members, were in Snowmass for a week of skiing and family fun. Conveniently, Emily's dad and stepmom "forgot" to give Kevin a Christmas gift, thus creating an opportunity to gift the two of them a one-on-one special lunch outing that week. The set up worked out quite well, as it seemed to be a last minute gift, causing no "engagement alarms" in Emily's head (until, of course, Kevin happened to make a comment or two creating a lot of anxiety for future Mrs. Miquelon).
The day came, and the couple were on their way to "destination unknown". About 10 minutes into the drive they started to hear dogs barking and immediately Emily relaxed. Knowing the destination, Krabloonik's Dining & Dog Sledding, she quickly dismissed the idea that this was a proposal scheme, and bought the guise that it was a gift from her parents. They were treated to a wonderful lunch and a delightful bottle of red wine, which Kevin quickly gulped down (must have been the nerves).
Emily & Kevin's sled was the last to get set up and head down the mountain. The experience was breathtaking, putting permanent smiles on both of their faces. When they got to the bottom, hot coco and snacks were being served near a crackling fire, but the Musher continued past the main group, where another guide met the couple offering to walk them to their destination. Emily was having the time of her life, adrenaline was pumping after the ride down and she was completely clueless as to what was to come. Just as they both turned the corner through the sprawling forest of Aspen trees, expecting a group of people and a fire, Emily saw"The Spot".
In the midst of this winter wonderland was a table for two set with a flickering lantern, seemingly hidden from the rest of the world. Emily turned to Kevin, shocked at the intimate setting. At this point, Kevin had stopped dead in his tracks, pale in the face. Right then and there he popped the question, giving the guide no time to set up the champagne waiting at the table. Emily had completely blacked out from the shock of what had just happened, requiring Kevin to ask the question a few more times. Finally, she came to and said "YES!!!!". They toasted the once in a lifetime moment, and sipped champagne as they reflected on what an amazing experience had just taken place.
That night they got to celebrate with family and enjoy the final hours of 2015 being newly engaged!
